Humpty Dumpty Inspired Cake from Growing Book by Book

Two of my favorite things- children's books and cake!  Combine the two and you have a match made in heaven.   Each year I try to make birthday cakes inspired by favorite books from the past year for my kids.  When my oldest son turned one, I made this truck cake to go with My Truck is Stuck. On his second birthday, he loved the Humpty Dumpty rhyme from this Hickory, Dickory, Dock book.   So, I made a wall out of pound cake and Humpty Dumpty out of a sugar cookie. So, now it's my youngest son's first birthday this week.  I … Continue Reading...

conversation starters, growing book by book, jokes and riddles

We are in month four of our year-long table topics series.   Each month in 2013, I will share a list of "table topics" that will help to get the conversation rolling at your dinner table.  If you are a teacher, these will make great lunch room table topic starters. Ready to get started for April?  All you need to do is print the topics.  Cut them into strips.  Place them in a decorative container.  Put the container on your table.  Each night, select one topic to discuss over dinner.  Viola, the table conversation is now ready to … Continue Reading...
