Are you new to Growing Book by Book? Welcome to my blog! My name is Jodie Rodriguez. I’m a mom and educator. You can read more about me on the about me page. Here is a quick tour of what you will find on Growing Book by Book.
My blog is dedicated to helping caregivers (parents, teachers, homeschoolers, librarians, etc.) nurture our youngest readers (ages 0-8).

We read lots and lots of books in our house. I share the best of the best of what we read. On this page you will find individual book reviews and related literacy activities to compliment each book.
This page has lots and lots of book lists on a variety of topics. Please let me know if you don’t see a topic you are interested in listed. I’m always looking for book list ideas!
Two of my post popular book list posts are Books About Redirecting and Promoting Good Behavior and Mentor Texts for Writer’s Workshop.
One of my many positions held as an educator was as a Reading Specialist! I love reading! Here you will find lots of reading activities to help build young readers. Topics include: alphabet, comprehension, creating a print-rich environment, decoding, read-alouds, phonemic awareness, shared reading and much more!
On this page you will find ideas to help nurture young writers. Ideas for handwriting, spelling and word work, making books and more.
I also have a few popular and ongoing projects that you will want to explore.
This is one of my favorite projects. Each month we recommend a book to read with your family. We also share a menu, table decoration crafts, family service project and table conversations for your dinner club.
365 table topics to get your kids talking at the dinner table. These topics also work great for the lunch table at school!
I love traveling and I love books! Booking Across the USA Trip 1 took place in 2013. Over 50 bloggers shared books and activities related to each state. Booking Across the USA Trip 2 happened in 2014. And finally, the Booking Across the USA Trip 3 occurred in 2015.
I live in a community that does not have a free public library. To help families in my community, I created the Under a Shady Tree Story Time as a free resource for my community. Each week I shared a book and literacy activities to accompany the book. You can start your own book club with these ideas!
