Two of my favorite things- children’s books and cake! Combine the two and you have a match made in heaven. Each year I try to make birthday cakes inspired by favorite books from the past year for my kids. When my oldest son turned one, I made this truck cake to go with My Truck is Stuck.
On his second birthday, he loved the Humpty Dumpty rhyme from this Hickory, Dickory, Dock book. So, I made a wall out of pound cake and Humpty Dumpty out of a sugar cookie.
So, now it’s my youngest son’s first birthday this week. I will be attempting an owl cake to go with the book Peek-a Who? I’ll let you know how it turns out. Keep your fingers crossed.

I’m obviously an amateur cake decorator, but I love creating literacy memories for my boys. Have you ever created a cake based on a book?

I haven’t made a book inspired cake. I love yours. I’ve made a few fun cakes for my kids though. I’m an amateur too.
