We all know that I’m all about books for kids! So, when it came time to start thinking about decorating Easter eggs, I thought why not let children’s books be our inspiration. Here is a look at the books and the Easter egg masterpieces that they inspired.

The book that led me to this egg decorating idea was Eggbert: The Slightly Cracked Egg by Tom Ross. In the story, Eggbert is asked to leave the refrigerator because he is cracked. As he makes his way out into the world, he paints himself to “fit in” with his new surroundings. However, he finds that he isn’t welcome in the new environments. Then, he really takes a look around and discovers that there are beautiful things on Earth that are cracked. He discovers that it’s ok to be cracked and begins to embrace who he is as an egg.
We let our inner artist shine through and this is what we designed!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle inspired this cute little guy.
Next, we made Pete the Cat from Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin. Using a toilet paper roll, we cut it in four pieces to represent his shoes.
It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles Shaw allowed for some creative shape cutting.
Hen’s Pens by Cox is a favorite book in our house. We got to practice zigzagging with markers and pipe cleaners and created a lift-the-flap on our egg.
I think our fish from Fish Eyes by Lois Ehlert turned out so cute. This little guy was created with layering tissue paper.
And finally we have the egg my 2 year-old created inspired by The Dot by Peter Reynolds!
If you were decorating storybook inspired Easter eggs, which children’s book would you select?
