Hopper Hunts for Spring is a tale of a little hare who hears that Spring is coming. Thinking that Spring is “someone”, bunny heads out to hunt for his new friend. As he travels through the forest, he meets lots of animals and asks them if they are Spring. In turn, they have sweet conversations about what each animal is doing in the forest. Finally, Hopper makes his way home with the help of another animal where his mother explains to him about the spring season. Hopper Hunts for Spring is a cute story for kids to add to your Spring collection.
For a follow-up literacy activity we decided to have one of our special bath nights.
1. With a black washable crayon, I drew the outline of several Spring symbols (blooming tree, flowers, rainbows, butterflies, and rain). On each object, I wrote a color word. Note: You will want to test out a small area with crayon on your bathtub. With just a little elbow grease, I was able to wipe off the crayon from our tub. All tubs are different though, so please check to make sure it will come off of your tub!
2. I filled a muffin tin pan with white shaving cream and tinted each part a different color to correspond with colors I had written on the pictures. This is the “paint” that the kids will use to paint the scene on the tub walls.
3. I also tinted the bath water green to represent the grass. We’ve been using the Crayola Color Bath Dropz recently to color the water and they work well.
4. Your bath is now ready! The kids will practice reading color words to determine which paint color to use. It’s such a fun way to get a little reading practice!
