It’s the last feature in our six part summer long superhero summer reading adventure series!
I’m sharing activities based on a super read-aloud title. This is the perfect project if you are looking for hands-on ideas to do with the kids that are connected to great books.
Each week I’ve shared a new book and list of activities that you can do with your kids during the summer. The ideas work well for the 3-8 year-old age group.
Superhero Summer Reading Book and Activities
Book
Veterans: The Heroes in Our Neighborhood is by Valerie Pfundstein. The men and women who protect our country are the same people who live and work in our communities. Meet the true real-life heroes living in your neighborhood in this rhythmic story.
After enjoying the book, have fun with these activities.
Activities
Try these fun activities throughout the week to build and reinforce skills.
Send a Patriotic Card
Let the kids write for a meaningful purpose. Have them make cards to send to active or retired members of the military. Provide patriotic colored paper and markers to create their cards.
Or, you could use these themed frames to aid your writing.
Patriotic Wreath
Display your patriotism proudly with a patriotic wreath.
Interview a Veteran
Find a veteran in your neighborhood to talk to. Ask him or her to share stories about their time serving your country.
Enjoy talking about our real-life heroes with your kids.
