If you know a child age 3 or under and you aren’t familiar with author and illustrator Sandra Boynton, then you will definitely want to keep reading. My sons were the proud owner of 15 Boynton baby/toddler board books. Many of which I can recite from memory!
Who is Sandra Boynton?
Boynton is an extremely talented woman with a knack for writing, drawing, songwriting and so much more. You may have purchased one of the over 5,000 greeting cards she has created over the past 30 years. But, what I really want to showcase is her super funny and engaging board books for the wee little ones. Boynton has written over 50 books for children.
And, Sandra Boynton and I share a birthday!…April 3rd.
If you don’t follow Sandra Boynton on Facebook, then you are missing out. She posts quite often, especially for silly holidays.
Favorite Sandra Boynton Board Books

Here are my sons’ top five favorite Sandra Boynton board books.
What’s Wrong Little Pookie
What’s Wrong Little Pookie is the story of Mama pig trying to figure out what is wrong with her crying Little Pookie by asking a series of yes/no questions that gradually get more absurd. After so many questions, Little Pookie stops crying and forgets what was bothering him in the first place.
Since I have this one memorized, I can recite a few lines when my son is upset and I don’t know why he is crying. After a few lines, I usually have a smiling happy child again!
Blue Hat, Green Hat
In Blue Hat, Green Hat animals try on different colored clothes and on each page, a turkey tries on that same clothing item the wrong way.
It still amazes me that my 21-month-old understood the humor in this book.
Belly Button Book!
We received the Belly Button Book! when my oldest son was born. It is a story of hippopotamuses who love to show off their belly buttons by wearing their swimsuits on Belly Button Beach. There is something about kids and bellybuttons that makes this one a hit.
Snuggle Puppy!
I’m not sure if my son liked Snuggle Puppy! best or if I did. It’s such a sweet sing-along book that I’ve highlighted before. “Oh Snuggle Puppy, I love you!”
Doggies
I also highlighted this book in my books about dogs. Doggies is a counting book to 10 where different dogs with different barks do their thing. I must say I’m a bit tired of barking like a dog, but it does entertain the little ones!
