read aloud gift basket for Growing Home book

Looking for a family read-aloud that has engaging little gifts along the way as you read?  Well, I’ve been inspired by this concept after receiving an adult book subscription box.  I enjoyed it so much and thought it would translate splendidly into a family reading format.  So, I present my first family read-aloud goodie basket that you can make for the book Growing Home.

What is a Family Read-Aloud Goodie Basket?

Full Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.

A Family Read-Aloud Goodie Basket is a reusable basket or box filled with:

  • an excellent chapter book read-aloud marked with sticky notes in strategic spots labeled with the page number
  • themed gifts wrapped and labeled with the corresponding page number to match the sticky note spot in the book

As you are reading aloud the book, you’ll meet your first sticky note.  When you do, stop and unwrap the corresponding number gift in your basket.  Enjoy the themed gift/activity the whole family can enjoy and then keep reading.  You’ll come across other stopping gift points along the way.

For less money than a night out with the family, you can have several nights of family bonding over a great read-aloud and building core memories.

Growing Home Book

Our book is Growing Home by Beth Ferry and The Fan Brothers. Inside of Number 3 Ramshorn Drive, you not only have the human Tupper family, you have Ivy the houseplant, Toasty the goldfish, Arthur the spider, and Ollie the Violet. Plus, a few more friends and not friendly people show up too. One thing is for sure, there is going to be some magic and a little danger. This one is fun chapter book readers who have found their sea legs or as a read aloud.
