Getting Ready to Play
Materials Needed: monster trucks, toy cars, blocks or other building materials, circle labels, permanent marker
Write a letter on each sticker. Use letters that will be helpful for building cvc words such as a, e, i, o, u, t, p, m, s, n, c, b, r, f. Place a sticker on each car.
Playing
It’s time to let the kids build a jump or obstacle course for the monster trucks. Let their creativity soar.
When it’s time to lay out the cars for the vehicle to jump, call out a simple cvc word such as cat, men, or rot. Have you child listen for the beginning sound and find the labeled car that matches the sound. Repeat for middle and ending sounds.
Have your child run the monster truck through the course and jump the cars. Repeat with more words.

I love this idea! My son is young still for CVC words, but his big sister can read now, so he loves to try to sound things out. I think he would be really engaged if we introduced this idea!

Laura, I hope you guys have fun with it. You could use it for alphabet recognition too. Just call out letters and have him find the cars that match the letters you call.
