Let’s head to the forest for fun literacy packed adventure.  We are reading The Quiet Forest by Charlotte Offsay and then have some learning fun with some book activities.

This cumulative tale takes us to the forest and starts with a mischievous mouse and quickly snowballs into a very loud day in the forest. So many early literacy opportunities in this one! Check out The Quiet Forest by Charlotte Offsay.

The Quiet Forest Book Activities

Fill the Forest

The Quiet Forest book activity to work on beginning sounds

Cut the picture icon cards (see printable below) apart and arrange on the table. Next to the cards place the forest image (see printable below.)

Call out a beginning sound. Instruct the student to find the picture image that matches the same beginning sound. The student should “fill the forest” by placing the icon card on the forest board.

Repeat until all cards have been added to the forest.

Retell the Story

Cut the animal cards (see printable below) apart.

Use the animal cards and forest mat to retell the story in the correct sequence. Place each animal in the forest mat as they appear in the story.
