3 FREE Printable CVC Word Games

Learning to sound out words can be fun with these CVC word games. Free phonics printables just waiting to printed and played with your kindergartener or first grader.

New readers need lots and lots of practice sounding out those cvc words.  You know words like bat, dog, fix, and get.  But, using flashcards and word lists to practice can be boring.   Enter cvc word games.  It’s a win-win.  The kids get to have fun and practice sounding out words at the same time.

CVC Word Games

Full Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.Just print the boards (see free download below) and grab a few playing pieces.  We like to use Lego mini figuresor mini erasers for playing pieces.  You will also need a die.

Just print the boards (see free download below) and grab a few playing pieces.  We like to use Lego mini figuresor mini erasers for playing pieces.  You will also need a die.

Board 1: Eek a Mouse

Eek a Mouse cvc word game

1.Roll the die. Move the correct number of spaces.

2.Read the word on the space to remain on the space.

3.If a player lands on the mouse, he returns to start.

4.The first player to reach the end wins.

Board 2: Stop

1.Roll the die. Move the correct number of spaces.

2.Read the word on the space to remain on the space.

3.If the player lands on the stop sign, she remains on that space until a 2, 4, or 6 is rolled with the die. If a 2, 4, or 6 is rolled, then the player moves that number of spots.

4.The first player to reach the end wins.

Board 3: Skip and Back

1.Roll the die. Move the correct number of spaces.

2.Read the word on the space to remain on the space.

3.If the player lands on a space with an arrow, follow the directions on the arrow.

4.The first player to reach the end wins.
