It’s that time of year when the kids are headed back to school.  You might be shopping for that perfect lunchbox or hunting for some fresh back to school lunch ideas.

Today, I have some fun lunchbox notes that will make those school lunches packed with literacy! These simple literacy activities will let your child know that you are thinking of them during lunch.

Lunch time at the beginning of the year can often be an awkward and uneasy time for many kids who may be shy, nervous or in the process of making new friends.

These lunch box notes will not only reassure your child that you are thinking about them, but also encourage them to talk to others at lunch and hopefully make some new friends.

Literacy Packed Back to School Lunch Ideas

LUNCH BOX NOTES

lunch box notes great for putting in those back to school lunches from growingbookbybook.com

Here are two weeks worth of back to school lunch ideas that are filled with literacy.  I’ve made the notes as a free printable.  All you need to do is print, cut and pack!   The notes will be fun for your child to read and share at the lunch table.

The lunch box notes include riddles, jokes, building self-esteem statements, literacy games, and ice breaker questions.

For more great lunch box note ideas, check out the 365 table topics series.

LITERACY THEMED LUNCH IDEAS

Here are some fun storybook themed lunch ideas too that would pair perfectly with the lunch box notes.

Little Miss Spider from Keitha’s Chaos

The Sneetches from Bento School Lunches

Pinkalicious from Bent On Better Lunches

The Giving Tree  from Becoming a Bentoholic

The Very Hungry Caterpillar from Eats Amazing

I’m excited to be sharing these ideas along with this fabulous group of bloggers in the Kid Blogger Network.  Visit their sites and check out the linky party below for more great back to school ideas!

I started sending little notes after my sixth grader told me no one in her
class would talk to her at lunch the first few days. 🙁 She didn’t want to sit with the boys and the girls all have their groups. The third day she found someone though!

I am a home child care provider. When my school-agers start back to school, we (my preschoolers and I) are going to start “school” also. We will dedicate part of our day to a more “formal” learning activity such as worksheets and having calendar time.

“School” for us consists of Parents Morning Out or MOPS one morning a week and activities at home. I love watching my teacher friends’ facebook feeds for pictures of their classrooms, but I’m not ready to send my little guy into one yet! 🙂

Rebecca, my little ones are home with me too. I think we are going to use some of these at lunch at home though. I’ll read them and discuss over lunch. Enjoy that time with your little guy!

Excited this year. My oldest goes to kindergarten. We decided to wait a year to send him because of a September birthday and sensitivity struggles. He is so confident now. I am not worried. Best decision we made was to wait a year to send him.

My daughter took a packed lunch to summer camp for the first time yesterday so I put little notes in her lunch boxes. I thought it was cute idea but the response was “Mummy, why did you do that? Nobody else’s Mummy did and I can’t read them!” I wonder what she’ll say when she finds today’s notes 🙂
