Finding books for toddlers can be challenging at certain stages of toddlerlom. There is that transitional stage when toddlers still need board books with durable pages that can’t be ripped and also need a bit more of a meatier story line.
Here are some of our favorite board books that aren’t babyish and will appeal to toddlers ready for a more lengthy story.

Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle is the story of a very kind truck who helps a grumpy truck after it gets stuck in the mud. Little ones will love to join in with a “beep beep”‘.
Karma Wilson has several books that appeal to toddlers. Bear Snores On is the story of Bear who sleeps while other animals enter his den to get warm. When he wakes, he is disappointed that the animals are enjoying themselves and he has nothing to add to the party.
Toddlers love to interact with books and Noisy Orchestra is a perfect title to engage toddlers. Nice thick board book pages paired with easy to press sound buttons to enhance the story. Kids will listen as the orchestra rhearses.
Mary Ann Hoberman has a series of song books that expand on the original verse or two that you already know. Our favorites include The Eensy Weensy Spider and Miss Mary Mack.
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen is full of rhythm and adventure. It’s also a great book to read while toddlers are up and moving around. They will have fun acting this story out in the room.
Jamberry by Bruce Degen will entice your toddler to find all the berries in the pictures. This is another one with great rhythm and rhyme. You will definitely want to have a berry jam snack after reading!
The Three Bears by Byron Barton is a great introduction to the classic fairy tale.
The Busy Little Squirrel by Nancy Tafuri is the story of a squirrel who collects food for the long cold winter. The story will remind you of The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle.
The Tiny Traveler: Egypt: A Book of Shapes by Misti Kennison may appear to be a simple shape book, but it will definitely expand a toddler’s horizon to different parts of the world. A fun introduction to other cultural landmarks. France: A Book of Colors is also available.
