We recently took our two boys on their first airplane flight to Florida.  I was a bit nervous about how they would handle this new way of traveling.

One of the things I like to do when introducing a new experience is to gather great books for kids about the topic and read, read, read.  Below are some of the best ones we read to help us prepare for our trip.

Help young children prepare for their first airplane flight with these great books about planes.

[easyazon_link identifier=”1477816755″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]My First Airplane Ride[/easyazon_link] by Patricia Hubbell  does a great job of walking little ones through the process of getting to the airport, moving through the airport including security, boarding, take-off and landing.  There is one line of text on each page.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”0753459159″ locale=”US” src=”/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/61ppQ579M5L.jpg” tag=”groboobyboo-20″ width=”500″]

[easyazon_link identifier=”0753459159″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]Amazing Airplanes[/easyazon_link] by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker takes a cartoon illustration approach to the big flight.  It’s another short one that makes it good for toddlers and preschoolers.  The back page includes a diagram of airplane parts.

[easyazon_link identifier=”0794510051″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]Going on a Plane[/easyazon_link] also walks you through an airplane trip.  The neat thing about this book is that beginning readers can read the top line of text and an older sibling or parent can read the bottom text.  It’s a great book for a shared reading experience.

[easyazon_link identifier=”B00E3H8WZG” locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]Going Places On a Plane[/easyazon_link] by Robert Hamilton is an easy reader that includes photographs.  This book helps to explain what a plane is and what a pilot does.

[easyazon_link identifier=”1432948113″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]My First Trip on an Airplane[/easyazon_link] by Vic Parker is another photograph journey of an airplane experience.  This one walks you through all the steps of a flight.  It even shows you what the bathroom looks like on a plane.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”500″ identifier=”1442450258″ locale=”US” src=”/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/51Bazhv5MlL.jpg” tag=”groboobyboo-20″ width=”500″]

[easyazon_link identifier=”1442450258″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]Planes Fly![/easyazon_link] by George Ella Lyon shows about different kinds of planes from seaplanes to fire fighting planes.  It shows planes taking off, flying and landing.

[easyazon_image align=”none” height=”454″ identifier=”1582461570″ locale=”US” src=”/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/519lMdhVcL.jpg” tag=”groboobyboo-20″ width=”500″]

[easyazon_link identifier=”1582461570″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]The Noisy Airplane Ride[/easyazon_link] by Mike Downs is great for preparing kids for all the sounds they will hear on an airplane ride.  I highly suggest this book for any child who is sensitive to noises.

I hope that these books will help you have a successful first airplane flight with your child!
