Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberly is a book that builds a monster page by page and then we watch it disappear page by page through die-cut pages.  It’s fun to read for Halloween or for a unit on shapes.

Go Away Big Green Monster Activities

Go Away Big Green Monster Pocket Chart Activity

Activity 1: Go Away Candy Monster

Focus Skills: Fluency, Recognizing Number Words, Counting

Materials: Printable (see below), scissors, laminator (optional), pocket chart (optional), tape (if not using pocket chart)

Preparation: Choose either the chant and enlarge on large paper or the sentence strips for a pocket chart. Cut on the dotted lines pages 7-8. Laminate for durability. The pieces can either be used in the pocket chart or can be taped to your enlarged chart.

Using with Students: Place a candy number on the blank line and read the chant together. Display all of the monsters and have the students find the correct corresponding monster to take away from the chart. Continue with a new number until you have worked through all the monsters.

Activity 2: Make a Candy Match

Materials: Printable (see below), scissors, laminator (optional),

Preparation: Use pages 7-8 from the free printable (see below,) cut, and laminate if desired.

Using With Students: Match the candy numbers with the correct monsters.
