I am so excited to tell you about an upcoming project that I’ve been working on behind the scenes for a few months now!  Family Dinner Book Club will debut on January 1, 2014.

Family Dinner Book Club

Many of you have been participating in our table topics series this past year.  These conversation starters have engaged lots of families to talk at the dinner table.  In fact, this series has been one of the most popular on Growing Book by Book this year.  So, I decided to continue that talk with a twist at the dinner table for the new year.

Family Dinner Book Club invites you to share a great story, great art, great conversation and great food each month.  On the first day of the month, we will introduce Family Dinner Book Club with our book club title announcement.  A variety of picture books and chapter books will be chosen for your enjoyment.  The project is perfect for children ages 4-8, but can easily be adapted for younger and older children.  Then on the 15th of each month, we will share a craft you can use to decorate your dinner table, a menu for your meal and conversation starters related to the featured book.  You will then have the rest of the month to read the book, make your table decorations and enjoy your meal.

Growing Book by Book, Enchanted Homeschooling Mom and Daisy at Home will be collaborating to bring you Family Dinner Book Club each month.  I will be sharing conversation starters related to the featured book.  Jill from Enchanted Homeschooling Mom will be sharing craft ideas related to the story that you can use to decorate the table for dinner club.  And, Sarah from Daisy at Home will be providing you with the dinner menu.

We would love to see pictures each month of your Family Dinner Book Club.  In fact, we’ve set up a Facebook page just for that!  Head over now, and “like” the Family Dinner Book Club Facebook page so that you don’t miss any of the fun!  We will be updating the page periodically between now and the first of the year.

Do you have some books that you would like to see featured for Family Dinner Book Club?  Please share your ideas below or on our Family Dinner Book Club Facebook Page.

I like this idea. Will you have ideas for families with teens?

Melissa, the books in this series will be geared towards the 10 and under crowd. But, I think teens could be a part too. They could help lead the conversations, read to the younger children, help prepare the meal, etc. I would love to hear how you make teens part of the book club when it starts!

I love that book. You are right that it would make a good book club book! I’ll have to get it again and read the pink page. Thanks for the idea!
