Draw, color, draw, color, repeat!  That pretty much sums up our mornings lately.  My kids love to create books.

We created this monster book to work on color word recognition.  It’s super fun to use around Halloween, but would also work anytime of the year.

A fun and interactive free color words printable book perfect for emergent readers needing to work on color recognition. It's all done with a fun monster theme.

Colors Printable Book Directions:

This book is super easy to prep!

color words printable book with monster theme

  1.  Download the free printable book here—-> Color Monsters
  2.  Print
  3.  Fold each sheet in half and cut.
  4.  Arrange the sheets in order and bind.  You can staple the book or use our favorite tape binding method.  Here’s a video I made on Periscope on how to do tape binding.

If you found this video helpful, make sure to follow me on Periscope.  You can be notified when I’m live recording a tip!

Now, it’s time to learn.  Encourage your child to point to each word as he or she reads the book.  As a color word is read, stop and color the monster the correct color.

Have your child write their name on the line on the front page.

This is a great book to add to your child’s independent reading bag to practice reading with fluency.
