I’m so pleased to be joining over 40 great bloggers in the Ultimate Guide to Baby’s First Year. Today we are all featuring “Baby Must Haves” and I’m specifically focusing on books based on songs for babies.
I remember the first book I read to each of my boys on their first day home from the hospital. Our daily reading hasn’t stopped! Here are some of our favorite books to sing to baby.

Reading and singing to babies helps them learn the rhythm of language. Plus, it’s a wonderful bonding experience between reader and baby!
The Wheels on the Bus illustrated by Jerry Smath is hands down the book we have sung the most! Before either of my boys could talk, they would do all the motions that match the text. There are many variations of this book and I think we may have them read all. This one is our favorite though. It’s small so little babies can hold onto it easily. I will always treasure this book. We actually have a whole set of books by Annie Kubler gifted to us from Aunt Margaret. Row, Row, Row Your Boat is our favorite in the set. My youngest loves the playful baby illustrations. Old MacDonald Had a Farm and Other Favorite Children’s Songs by Tiger Tails is one of my favorite books to give to new families. We read it almost daily for months. Favorite songs in the book include: “The Bear Went Over the Mountain”, “Bingo” and “Mr. Sun”. Iza Trapani has also written and illustrated several song books for kids. One of our go-to books is The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Her illustrations are beautiful! The very talented musician Raffi has been entertaining generations of little ones. Five Little Ducks is one of his classic songs/books. Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton makes me tear up each time I sing it. The message of love for a little one shines through this book. I find myself humming it during the day. The More We Get Together by Caroline Jayne Church is a classic song paired with beautiful illustrations.
