I’m pleased to be participating in the Top 10 Summer Blog Hop this year. Dozens of bloggers have teamed up this week to provide you with lots of ideas and tips for summer learning, literacy activities and fun.
Today I’m sharing my Top 10 Just Right Summer Nook Ideas. Encouraging reading over the summer can be as simple as changing up where you and the kids read. Here are some of my favorite places to read during the summer.
10 Nook Ideas
1. Garden Teepee
A friend of our family made this super cool garden teepee out of bamboo and then planted vines and sunflowers to grow up around it. A perfect summer getaway reading spot!
2. Blanket in the Grass
Nooks don’t have to be complicated. A simple blanket on the grass is a perfect invitation for reading. You might want to even hold a book gala picnic.
3. Porch Swing
A swing on the porch makes a great bedtime reading location.
4. Reading Fort
Sometimes the weather is just too hot and you want to stay inside. Grab some blankets, sheets, chairs and in our case a toddler bed and let your creative building juices flow. Then, get a flashlight and a pile of books and READ!
5. Outside Fort
Forts are also great outdoor reading spots.
6. The Pool
I know you are thinking I’m crazy suggesting books, kids and water in the same sentence! But, there are ways to bring reading to the pool for little ones. Vinyl books are especially made for the bathtub. Also, laminate some favorite poems or songs and you can bring them into the pool! We took some words written on foam sheets with us into the pool.
7. The Car
Many of us take road trips during the summer. As long as you don’t get car sick, reading on a trip is a great way to pass time. If you do get car sick, try an audio book instead.
8. Hammock
This one is pure heaven to me. Laying in a hammock and reading! And, they are big enough for the whole family to climb into for a special story.
9. The Library
Here is another great place to cool off during the summer. It is also the place with the best selection of books. Our local library even has a reading tent complete with a pretend campfire where you can read your favorite books.
10. Your Bed
Squeezing in reading during the summer can sometimes be a challenge. Here is a perfect spot to read at the end of the day.
