Truck Books for Toddlers

Trucks Zooming By by Pamela Jane zooms us down the highway as a little girl travels with her truck-driving parents down the open road.  Along the way, she sees lots of different kinds of trucks carrying everything from pizza to horses.  At the end, she dreams of one day owning her own truck.

There are not enough garbage truck books for toddlers on the market.  I haven’t met a toddler that isn’t obsessed with the trash truck or recycling truck.  But Asia Citro gives us a gem in Vroom Vroom Garbage Truck.  It’s a must-have. (board book)

The Wheels on the Garbage Truck by Jeffrey Burton is pretty cute too.  It’s a sing-along to the tune “The Wheels on the Bus.” (board book)

Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle is one of the most adorable truck characters out there.  He’s a helper.  In Little Blue Truck, he helps another truck stuck in the muck.  Also, enjoy Little Blue Truck Leads the Way and Goodnight Little Blue Truck. (board books)

Little ones love lift-the-flaps.  If you have toddlers who are past the rip-off-the-tabs stage, grab Lift-the-Flap Tab: Trucks (Lift-the-Flap Tab Books) by Roger Priddy.  Each page spread features a different truck with lift-the-flap tabs to reveal more details inside each truck. (board book)

touch and feel truck book by Usborne

Touch-and-feel books are also wonderful for toddlers.  That’s Not My Truck is from the amazing That’s Not My…series by Usborne.  Each page has a unique texture to feel.  And, don’t forget to look for the mouse on each page spread too. (board book)

Watch to see where the truckload of bones go in My Truck is Stuck by Kevin Lewis.  It’s fun, silly, bright and colorful making it a rhythmic read-aloud with little ones. (board book)

Tow Truck Joe by June Sobel is the story of a town coming together during a cookie fender bender. The book features lots of fun trucks and a friendly pup named Patch. (board book)

Books about Cars That Zoom

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Car by Kate Dopirak is a sing-a-long to a familiar tune, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”

Toot Toot Beep Beep by Emma Garcia follows the busy cars as they make all sorts of sounds through the town. (board book)

Tractor Books for Toddlers Who Love the Farm

Otis by Loren Long is a gorgeously illustrated book about a friendly tractor who is pushed aside when a shiny new tractor is introduced to the farm.   But, when Otis saves the day, his value is rediscovered.  We’ve also enjoyed Otis and the Tornado and Otis and the Puppy. (board books)

Tractor Mac Farm Days by Billy Steers has a busy day on the farm because there is lots to do. There are also Tractor Mac stories that are a bit longer.  (This one is a board book and the other in the series are picture books.)

Books About Buses for Young Kids

Something just as mesmerizing as the garbage truck is the school bus.  Toddlers love to look for the big yellow bus traveling the roads.

All the vehicle kids are headed to school in The Itsy Bitsy School Bus by Jeffrey Burton. (board book)

The Little School Bus by Margery Cuyler is part of a delightful series of transportation books.  In this one, we travel with the bus driver to pick up the school kids and even the repair shop for a little fix on a light.

For even more buses, check out Finn’s Fun Trucks: Bus Buddies by Finn Coyle.  Heavy-duty lift-the-pages reveal trolleys, trams, and even a double-decker bus.

Of course, little ones also love to sing “The Wheels on the Bus.”  There are several books to match the song and many variations of the book.  So get singing with our list of Wheels on the Bus Books.
