I haven’t been this excited about a series of books in a long time. Imagine with me. A strong and inquisitive female main character, science and inquiry playing a central role through the whole story, and magical characters to expand your imagination. That is what you get in the new Zoey and Sassafras series. A great resource as a read-aloud or for new early chapter book readers.

Asia Citro has concocted the most wonderful elements into a series that is receiving high praises from kids, parents, and educators.
Currently, you can get three books in the series. Asia sent us the first one and we quickly ordered the next two. My 6-year-old hasn’t been this excited over a series since he discovered his beloved [easyazon_link identifier=”0807508543″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]The Boxcar Children[/easyazon_link].

[easyazon_link identifier=”1943147094″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]Zoey and Sassafras Dragons and Marshmallows[/easyazon_link]is the first book in the series. We learn about Zoey’s special ability to see magical creatures in need of help. It’s a skill that she shares with her mom. Zoey and her cat, Sassafras, are called by the doorbell on the barn to help a struggling dragon. Zoey uses her thinking goggles and scientific reasoning to help the creature.

Book two is [easyazon_link identifier=”1943147140″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]Zoey and Sassafras Monsters and Mold[/easyazon_link] which introduces us to Gorp the monster. Gorp is having a problem with mold growing on his fur and needs to get rid of it before the monster ball. Zoey learns all about preservatives to help this magical creature with his problem.

Then, there is[easyazon_link identifier=”1943147191″ locale=”US” tag=”groboobyboo-20″]Zoey and Sassafras Merhorses and Bubbles[/easyazon_link]. (My 6 year-old says this one is his favorite.) Zoey discovers a problem in the backyard stream that is threatening the magical merhorses. A little scientific investigating leads her to the cause of the stream pollution.
The Writing Activity: Printable Stationery
Zoey may want to keep in touch with her new friends so we created some Zoey and Sassafras printable stationery for kids to write to Pip, Marshmallow, Gorp or the Merhorses. You might need to send the merhorses their letter in a plastic or other waterproof container.

These sounD so fun! What age would you say the age range on these is?
Jodie Rodriguez says
As a read aloud you can use them with kids as young as three. For kids to read on their own, they would be for a child who is now ready to move into chapter books. It’s an early chapter book with plenty of picture support.
