learning gifts for children

The holiday season is here and it’s time to get the kids something educational they’ll love.  Yes, it’s the 2021 Literacy Gift Guide for Kids.  My favorite picks for the year.

#1 Books

Lots and lots of book lists of great books for kids.

Yes, every child should open up at least one book this holiday season.  This year, I challenge you to really think about a book that will be a perfect match for your listener or reader.  What is the child you are giving a book passionate about?  Find a book about that!

I have over 200 book lists on Growing Book by Book to help you find that just right book from babies to beginning readers. —>See the Book Lists by Topic

#2 KC Cubs Rug

A fun literacy themed rug can serve several puproses.  First, it can define a reading space.  Second, it can be used for multiple literacy games.  Check out this Instagram reel I created for using this KC Cubs rug.

One of my favorite illustrators, Christian Robinson, partnered with Target this year to create a line of goods.  I had to snag these bookends which are perfect for holding up some of your favorite children’s books.

#4 Keyboard Pop It

My kids have been obsessed with the pop it fidget toys this year.  And, they even have a keyboard verison so kids can practice letter recognition or spelling words.

#5 Crate Expectations

Inside a Crate Expectations subscription book box

I discovered a new to me book subscription box for children ages 8 and up and it’s amazing.  It’s called Crate Expectations.  We loved it.

And, if you need a book subscrption box recommendation for younger children, I’ve got you covered there too.—>Favorite Book Subscription Boxes

#6 Soft Belly Button Plush Hippo

Raise your hand if you are a Sandra Boynton fan.  We adored the Belly Button Book when my kids were babies and toddlers.  And, now you can get that little hippo in plush form.  Of course, if the child you are giving this too has not being fortunate enough to hear the book, you’ll want to give a copy of that too.

#7 Letter Llamas

Llamas are just too cute.  And now, little ones can match uppercase and lowercase letter llamas.  Once they snap them together they can have all sorts of fun creating little llama stories too.

#8 Paddington Tee

Oh Paddington!  May I have a bite of your sandwich.  I’d get this Paddington Marmalade Sandwich Tee if it came in adult sizes.

#9 Story Time Chess

I’ve been eyeing this game through pre-production and it’s already winning awards.  And, we all know that learning through stories is super powerful.  Enter Story Time Chess where children learn how to play chess through storytelling.

#10 Words Over Easy

For all your star spellers, try out Words Over Easy.  Letter eggs get dropped in the sorter.  Letters landing on the green side must be used in each word you brainstorm.  But, be careful not to use any of the red sided eggs in those words because those are rotten letter eggs.  Great for children who are spelling confidently to play with adults.

More Gift Giving Ideas Based on Age

And, for even more literacy related gifts, I’ve got you covered.  From stocking stuffers to gifts for beginning readers, I have an idea for you.
