Discussion Questions
-What do you like to do in the snow? (before reading)
-Do you recognize any of the items that the author/illustrator is using to decorate the snowmen in her collages?(during reading)
-Do you think birds like snow? Why? (after reading)
Literacy Activity: Building Snowballs
Skill: matching letters to beginning sounds
Materials: printable (see below)
Preparation: Print one set of printables for the class. Cut and laminate for durability. Gather letter tiles or letter mini erasers.
Select one snowman card to show to the students. Identify the pictures on the snowballs and name the beginning sound.
Find the letter that matches the beginning sound and place it on the top snowball. Repeat with the remaining snowman.
Variation: Let students write the letter on the top snowball if the cards have been laminated. Use a dry erase marker and eraser.
