Monsters Love Colors Activities

Monsters Love Colors by Mike Austin is a fun, silly, and energetic book about colors. Join the monsters as they mix colors to create new colors and encourage you to create your own flavor color too.

Activity One: Feed the Monster

rhyming activity with monster theme

Skill: Identifying rhyming pairs.

Materials: Printable Monster and Rhyming Cards (free printable below), laminator (optional), scissors

Cut and laminate the monster sheet and rhyming pair cards.

You can tape the Feed the Monster sheet to a box and cut out a hole for the mouth if you choose  to have students place the cards in the monster’s mouth and “disappear.” Students could also just place the rhyming pairs on the monster.

To play, have students select a card, name each picture and decide if the words rhyme.  If they do, the monster would like to eat the card.

Activity Two: Design a Flavorful Color

Skills: Showcasing creativity and building fine motor skills.

Materials: Printable Sundae Sheet (free printable below), crayons or markers

Print a flavorful sundae sheet for each student.  Invite students to design their own flavorful color creations.

Activity Three: Read More Books About Monsters
