Materials Needed:  printable jars and heart candies (download below), scissors, sticks or paper straws (optional)

  1.  Print the jars and candies included in the free download.

  3.  Have a set of sticks or paper straws on hand.  A drum or clapping with your hands will work too.

LET’S PLAY

Valentine game to build phonological awareness skills

Have the child select one candy and name the object pictured.  Then say, “Let’s tap (or drum or clap) the word parts.”

Together, clap the parts and count how many claps or taps were used for the word.  Then, find the correct jar (1 syllable, 2 syllables, 3 syllables, or 4 syllables) to place the candy sucker.  Complete for each candy until all of them have been placed.
