I love to discover new books for kids and today I have another great one to share.  Chocolate Milk, Por Favor! by Maria Dismondy is a must have for every classroom and home library.

I’ve been a big fan of Maria’s for some time.  I did an author profile on her a few years ago and featured her book Spoonful of Sweetness.

Every classroom and home library needs this book to help kids learn about diversity, acceptance and kindness.

Full Disclsoure: I received a copy of this book to review.  All opinions expressed are my own.  This post contains affiliate links.

Chocolate Milk, Por Favor! is the story Johnny who is a big fan of school but that all changes when the new kid, Gabe arrives. Gabe doesn’t speak any English, and that doesn’t stop Johnny from going out of his way to be unkind. But what will Johnny do when Gabe starts to make new friends? Will he join in the fun of making a new friend or turn the other way? Johnny realizes a powerful message in this story where student differences are celebrated. Read to find out how chocolate milk plays a major role in the discovery of the real universal language.
Maria drew inspiration for the story from the real life Gabe who was a student in her classroom.  She was amazed at the kindness of her students to accept and help Gabe in the classroom.
This book is a wonderful bridge for conversations about diversity, empathy, acceptance and kindness.

Check out the book trailer of Chocolate Milk, Por Favor!

So pour the kids a glass of chocolate milk, read this book and start a conversation about how to be accepting, kind and generous.

Here are a few questions Maria suggests asking to get you started.

How can differences among people help us learn?

What actions did people take to help Gabe?
